REP. ENGEL VOTES AGAINST SPLIT FARM BILL; CALLS EXCLUSION OF FOOD STAMPS "A SHAM"
07/11/13Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-16) voted against the House GOP Leadership’s passing of a watered down Farm Bill which omitted the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Historically, the SNAP program has been part of the Farm Bill – which has passed in a bipartisan manner for decades.
Rep. Engel said, “The removal of SNAP from the Farm Bill is a sham. The Republican majority is in such disarray they’re unable to adequately govern the country. Once again, in an effort to placate the Tea Party, they have put children, seniors and the disabled in harm’s way. Depriving those most in need by not including the SNAP program is not only unacceptable, it goes against our nation’s long history of compassion.”
