Congressman Engel Praises State of the City Address

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Eliot L. Engel, who represents parts of the Bronx County, issued the following statement after attending the State of the City address on Monday. Representative Engel endorsed Bill de Blasio for Mayor in the Democratic primary last year.

“Mayor Bill de Blasio’s speech was truly inspirational. He touched upon all of the issues that he spoke about during his campaign, and laid out steps to achieve his goals. I particularly appreciated his thoughts on education.  City University of New York has made higher education possible for many working and middle class students, like me, who otherwise may not have been able to afford college.  CUNY is vital to the cultural and economic fabric of New York City.”

“The Mayor also reiterated his call for universal pre-K programs throughout the City, which I also endorse. There are several reports that show the benefit of early education, but for many families it’s simply out of reach. If there’s one thing that we could do to truly level the playing field it would be to adopt universal pre-K for our City’s children. Let’s give all kids the opportunity to start strong.”
