Engel Statement on Climate Agreement

ENGEL STATEMENT ON CLIMATE AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and a senior Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, today made the following statement on the agreement reached in Paris to combat climate change:

“I applaud the efforts of the 190 nations that came together for a strong, unified, and ambitious global response to climate change. In particular, the leadership of the United States was key to this agreement, which sets the stage for nations to ramp up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time.

“I just spoke with United States Secretary of the Interior Linda Jewell, who briefed me on the Paris agreement.  She explained that the agreement will unlock huge opportunities for businesses and workers as new industries develop in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“I strongly support the Administration's efforts and congratulate the countries of the world on this key step to tackle climate change.”
