Rep. Engel Announces Extension of FEMA Deadline for Superstorm Sandy Victims

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Eliot Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that FEMA has extended the deadline for flood insurance policy holders to submit their Superstorm Sandy claims for review. The last day to submit claims will now be October 15, 2015.

Policyholders can call the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Sandy claims center at 866-337-4262 any time from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday to request a review. Claims can also be submitted online, by going to www.fema.gov/hurricane-sandy-nfip-claims and downloading a form that can be filled out and emailed back to FEMA-sandyclaimsreview@fema.dhs.gov. Forms can also be faxed to 202-646-7970 to begin the review process.

“Many of my constituents are still dealing with the effects of Superstorm Sandy nearly three years after it tore through our area,” Congressman Engel said. “Since that storm hit, I have continued to advocate on behalf of those who were adversely affected, by fighting to procure the proper federal resources for recovery. Even when FEMA attempted to reclaim erroneously allocated Sandy funds from seniors, I stood up to the agency, stopping them from fixing their own mistake at the expense of innocent seniors. FEMA showed flexibility and did the right thing in that case, just as they’ve shown some flexibility by extending the deadline for NFIP claims reviews. I encourage all policyholders to take advantage of this extension and submit their Sandy claims for review as soon as possible.”
