Congressman Engel’s Offices Accepting Donations of School Supplies for Homeless Children

Bronx, NY —Congressman Eliot Engel and the Coalition for the Homeless are again teaming-up to help New York City's homeless children get ready for school with "Project: Back to School," a drive to collect school supplies for the thousands of school age children living in the city's homeless shelters.

Donations will be accepted from now until to August 25th at Congressman Engel's Riverdale office, located at 3655 Johnson Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463, and at the Congressman's Co-op City office, located at 177 Dreiser Loop, Room 3, Bronx, NY 10475. The Coalition for the Homeless is collecting supplies for students grades K-12. A full list of desired donations can be found on the project's website at

"I am pleased to once again partner with the Coalition for the Homeless to collect school supplies,” Congressman Engel said. “No child should go without supplies based upon their living situation. This is a vital cause and, as a former schoolteacher, it is particularly close to my heart. Year after year, my offices receive everything from notebooks and pens to binders and even backpacks. And year after year, I am struck by the immense response from my constituents. The 16th district is filled with some tremendously giving individuals who are always quick to help out and donate the supplies our kids need. I am certain this year’s drive will be no different.”

As the nation's oldest advocacy and direct services organization, the Coalition for the Homeless works to help homeless families by conducting a variety of social service programs, including a summer sleep-away camp, an after-school program for homeless children, as well as a mobile soup kitchen.
