Engel Announces $2 Million for Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers

Money will help fund the Center’s Lower Hudson Valley Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Program

Westchester, NY—Congressman Eliot Engel, a top member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today announced the Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers will receive $2 million in federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund the Center’s Lower Hudson Valley Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Program. The initiative works with residents in different communities throughout Westchester teaching improved techniques for relationship building. The program is based out of Yonkers.

“This program has done so much to strengthen personal relationships among families in lower Westchester over the last several years and I am pleased more federal funding has been allocated to support it,” Congressman Eliot Engel said. “By giving individuals the tools to foster healthier relationships, we are also fostering a greater sense of community and self-worth. I thank Dr. Jim Bostic and his entire team at the Nepperhan Community Center for helping our neighborhoods in Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mt. Vernon, and Greenburgh thrive.”

“Nepperhan Community Center is entering its third year of operating the Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Program entitled EmpowerYou, funded by the United States Dept. of Health and Human Services. Through strong partnerships with the faith-based community,  public schools, local community based organizations, in the cities of Peekskill, New Rochelle, White Plains, Greenburgh, Mt. Vernon and Yonkers, thanks to this federal funding initiative our agency has been able to positively impact hundreds of families throughout the Lower Hudson Valley Region. We believe when we strengthen the family, we're also strengthening communities,” said Dr. Jim Bostic, Th.D., Executive Director of Nepperhan Community Center Inc.
