Engel Announces $540,910 Grant for College of New Rochelle

Westchester, NY—Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today announced the College of New Rochelle has been awarded a $540,910 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education under the English Language Acquisition: National Professional Development Program.

The fundingwill allow the College of New Rochelle to implement professional development activities intended to improve instruction for English Learners (ELs) and assists education personnel working with ELs to meet high professional standards. Professional development activities may include both preservice and inservice activities.

“For any prospective employer, finding a candidate that is both well-qualified and bilingual is a huge plus,” Congressman Engel said. “We live in a diverse world, and the ability to communicate across different languages in a professional setting is a skill that grows more valuable by the day. The College of New Rochelle does a tremendous job preparing their students for careers in a wide variety of fields, and this funding will no doubt help to reinforce that preparation for its EL student population.”
