Engel Cosponsors the Veteran Education Empowerment Act

Congressman Eliot L. Engel has cosponsored H.R. 1652, the Veteran Education Empowerment Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at helping colleges and universities establish or improve current veteran student centers.

“Ensuring our nation’s veterans have the ability to transition back into civilian life after serving must be a bigger priority,” said Engel. “Many veterans and active duty service members who attend college face unique hardships moving from the battlefield to the classroom.  The creation or improvement of veteran student centers will help student veterans find academic support, networking opportunities, peer mentorship, financial assistance, counseling, and career services that might not otherwise be available to them. I am proud to cosponsor the Veteran Education Empowerment Act and will continue to fight for greater support for our veterans and public education institutions.”

“Having been instrumental in the erection of two On Campus Veterans Centers, I know of the importance of a Veterans Center on Campus that will give Transitioning Veterans access to needed resources, and continued camaraderie that will forge academic success,” said Viviana DeCohen, the Director of Military & Veteran Affairs at Concordia College, and U.S. Marine Veteran.
