Engel, Mayor Bramson Pledge to Work Together to Advance New Rochelle’s LINC Project

Washington, DC--Congressman Eliot Engel, a top member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, met this week with New Rochelle’s Mayor Noam Bramson and Development Commissioner Luiz Aragon to discuss some of the City’s upcoming initiatives including the innovative LINC Project.  The LINC Project would convert the underutilized and hazardous Memorial Highway into a safe public open space with recreational uses, bicycle facilities and pedestrian amenities, and would help strengthen the economic ties between the Lincoln Avenue neighborhood and downtown New Rochelle.

“I applaud Mayor Bramson for putting forth an inspiring view of New Rochelle’s future,” Engel said. “The City secured a $10 million grant from New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative Program, and now seeks addition federal funding from Department of Transportation’s BUILD Grants program, which we are working to help secure. Infrastructure projects are critical for bringing communities together and for strengthening local economies, and I am fully committed to helping New Rochelle make the LINC Project a reality.”

“We are grateful for Congressman Engel’s strong support and for the effective partnership of our entire federal delegation,” said Mayor Bramson. “The LINC is a transformative project that will enhance safety and mobility, provide our community with an exceptional new open space and recreational asset, and encourage inclusive, equitable economic growth and opportunity.  Congressman Engel has been an outstanding advocate for New Rochelle’s interests across the board, and his assistance with this initiative will make a big difference as we seek federal funding.”
