Engel Statement on Abortion Ban Day of Action

Washington D.C.—Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, issued the following statement on today’s Stop the Bans day of action:

“I join in solidarity today with women in New York 16 and across the country who are taking a stand against the wave of shameful, regressive abortion bans we are currently seeing at the state level. The unconscionable new Alabama abortion law is just the latest attack on women and their reproductive rights by the radical GOP. These ultra-conservative politicians, almost uniformly male, have for decades worked to roll back women’s rights and they will not stop until Roe v. Wade is overturned. We simply cannot let that happen. Elected officials should not be deciding what is best for a woman’s health: she and her doctor should. That should be the guiding principle for all government representatives at the local, state, and federal levels.

“I will continue to do all I can to fight these horrific bans as a Member of Congress.”
