Engel Statement on Friday News Dump

Washington D.C.—Congressman Eliot L. Engel issued the following statement:

"The President waited until a Friday night—as the second largest state in the union braces for a disaster and the rest of the country looks on with worry for our fellow-citizens—to announce two shameful decisions along with the quiet departure of a bigot he had chosen as a top advisor. Pardoning the convict Joe Arpaio circumvents the rule of law and gives comfort to those who share Arpaio's hateful beliefs. Shutting transgendered individuals out of the military stokes anti-LGBTQ bias and denies committed Americans the chance to serve. And Sebastian Gorka should never have worked at the White House in the first place, which is why I called for his firing months ago.

"For the President to drop these bombshells as American citizens are in the path of a potentially devastating hurricane is far beneath the dignity of his office."
