Engel Statement on Istanbul Terrorist Attack

ENGEL STATEMENT ON ISTANBUL TERRORIST ATTACK

WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the terrorist attack in Istanbul:

“I'm outraged by the terrorist attack in Istanbul, and my heart goes out to the wounded and grieving. Turkey is a NATO ally and an important partner in the effort to combat violent extremism, and we stand with the people of Turkey in this difficult moment.  I will continue to monitor this situation, and the United States should be ready to assist authorities in Turkey to investigate this attack and bring to justice those responsible. In the wake of this attack, we must fight even harder and smarter alongside our Turkish friends against an enemy that targets innocent people and wants us to live in fear.  We will not allow them to succeed.  We will defeat this enemy.”
