Engel Statement On Passage of Resolution Opposing Trump’s Trans Military Ban

Washington, D.C.–Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a member of the House LGBT Equality Caucus, issued the following statement in response to House passage of a resolution opposing President Trump’s ban on transgender service members in the military:

“The House took a stand against hatred and bigotry by loudly rejecting the President’s shameful ban on transgender servicemembers in the military. This disgraceful policy is an affront to our entire military community and is an insult to every brave American who serves our country. Discriminating against soldiers because of their identity is completely antithetical to our American values and will only weaken our armed forces.

“Passing this resolution in the House showed that we are better than this President’s prejudiced policies.”
