Engel Statement on Third Anniversary of President Trump’s Muslim Travel Ban

Congressman Eliot L. Engel issued the following statement on the third anniversary of President Trump’s discriminatory Muslim Ban:

“Today marks three years since President Trump signed his discriminatory Muslim Travel Ban Executive Order. At the time of its signing the President claimed that shutting out Muslim refugees and immigrants would make America safer, which of course was never true. In reality, his Muslim Ban has only served to shut the door on some of the world’s most vulnerable people facing persecution.

“Following the Supreme Court’s awful decision to uphold the Muslim Ban last year, the President is now attempting to expand his appalling ban to include more countries. We cannot let his xenophobia be the driving force behind our nation’s immigration policy.

“I have and will continue to always be a staunch defender of immigrant communities, refugees, and asylum seekers. As a cosponsor of the NO BAN Act, I am committed to working with my colleagues in the House to repeal the President’s shameful Muslim Ban. And I will continue to be outspoken about the need to remove Stephen Miller, the chief architect of the President’s racist immigration policies, from the White House.”
