ENGEL WELCOMES ARREST IN JCC BOMB THREATS

WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, a leading member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and co-chair of the Bipartisan Taskforce for Combating anti-Semitism, today made the following statement welcoming the arrest made this morning in the Jewish Community Centers (JCC) bomb threats across the United States and Canada:

“I am relieved and grateful that an arrest was made related to the bomb threats against Jewish community centers across the United States over the last three months. While the motive remains unclear, it is undeniable that these threatswreaked havoc, fear, and anxiety in Jewish communities across America. I applaud local and state law enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security for their countless hours working to arrest this suspect and pursuejustice. I also applaud the bilateral cooperation that helped locate and apprehend the suspect in Israel—a testament to the strength of the U.S-Israel relationship. Terrorizing an ethnic or religious minority has no place in this country—or anywhere inthe world—and justice will always prevail.”
