Engel Welcomes Rep. Espaillat to House Foreign Affairs Committee

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Eliot L. Engel, the Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs, is pleased to welcome Congressman Adriano Espaillat, the newly elected representative from New York’s 13th Congressional District, to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Espaillat, who sought appointment to the committee, is the first Dominican American to be elected to the House.

“As the first Dominican American Member of the House, Congressman Espaillat will bring a unique voice and perspective to the Foreign Affairs Committee, especially as it pertains to our work strengthening U.S. engagement in the Caribbean,” Congressman Engel (NY-16) said. “There is so much happening now internationally, yet our new administration is pushing isolationist policies that seek to close us off from the world. The House Foreign Affairs Committee Democrats are always looking for ways to maintain America’s position of leadership on the global stage, and I am certain Congressman Espaillat will be a great ally promoting our interests and values abroad. I look forward to working closely with him both in Washington and back home in New York.”

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs,” Congressman Espaillat (NY-13) said. “With threats of war around the world, reports of foreign agency involvement in our democratic processes, and the challenges faced throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, I look forward to working to create effective oversight and legislation that will enhance our nation’s security.”
